Where is the humming noise coming from?

Remember reading about resonance in your Physics textbook? All motors in all fans vibrate. But the problem comes when it touches the stuffs to which it is mounted to. The vibration gets amplified, resulting in the humming sound due to resonance.

How to prevent this noise?

All you need to ensure is that your vibrating motor should not be in contact with any other fan part.Examine if these potential causers are properly separated

1. Motor and the blade brackets
2. Blade brackets and the blades
3. Down rod/motor flange and the mounting bracket

Hampton Bay fans are generally fixed with a vibration isolating material to prevent contact between the above parts. Rubber flywheel is one such effective isolating material that is placed between the motor and blade brackets. Rubber flywheels are usually fixed for expensive fans. However, average fans should either have paper or rubber washers or spacers that will avoid contact between the above parts.

All you have to do is this

1. Check for such spacers while buying
2. Spacers tend to wear out or fall off over the years. In that case, replacement spacers are easily available and you can simply fix them between parts of concern.

So, stopping the humming noise should not cost you much. Now no electrician can fool you by his repaid charges!
