We are getting many queries, comments and emails related to Hampton Bay Remote replacements or how to make Ceiling fan work with Remote control. We would like to provide some instructions with circuit diagram on how to install remote control for a ceiling fan. Also there is a video at the end where we show an installation demo. SAFETY NOTE: Anytime you work on electricity turn the cirucit breaker off and mark the breaker panel as “BEING SERVICED DO NOT TAMPER”. Test all components with a working voltage detector before touching any wiring.
The above circuit diagram clearly shows how a ceiling fan should be connected to the remote control. Make sure that the remote control receiver is placed within the fan and connected exactly as specified in the diagram. Note that when you press a button the remote there should be a small LED that lights up showing that the remote is powered and sending signal to the receiver. If the red light glows then it shows that battery is fine and the remote is working well.
If the fan doesn’t respond on pressing the button then there is some fault with the receiver. You can order receiver replacement online free from Home Depot. If the fan doesn’t work even after the receiver is replaced (as shown in the diagram) then get a multimeter and test the voltage between the incoming white and black (or red) wires.
